Wake it up: When you first get the wig out of its bag it will probably need some help coming back to life! Grab it by the nape and gently shake it out. Then "tickle" the cap with your fingers to wake it up. If it needs to be smoothed or tamed after this, dampen the areas that need help and smooth them back down.
Heat: Unless your wig is heat-defiant, avoid all sources of extreme temperatures including curling irons, opening a hot oven, or sitting near a heat lamp. This may damage your wig fibers. If you do have a heat-defiant wig, you can style it with heat but it's a little tricky! Curl the fibers with a curling iron or straightener, then hold the hair in the desired shape until it cools. Once styled, it will maintain this shape (even with washing) until it is heat styled differently.
Combing: To comb your wig, you can finger comb it or use a wide tooth comb. Do not use a regular hairbrush, which will pull and damage the fibers. Gently comb through it before you put it on and when you take it off.
For longer styles: Longer styles may also need to be combed throughout the day to avoid excessive tangling. Consider using Simply Stylin silicone spray (very lightly!) at the nape to reduce tangling
Storage: When it's not on your head, store it on a wig stand, or you can gently lay it down somewhere that it will not be disturbed.
Washing: Wash your wig as infrequently as possible. Use dry shampoo spray if needed to “freshen” the inside of the cap between washings. To wash your wig, you can use synthetic wig shampoos and conditioners or Dawn dish soap and liquid fabric softener instead. Hang the wig on an open wig stand (not a cork block head) to air dry. Your wig should maintain its shape. Same goes for getting caught in the rain.
Modifications: Want to cut it? No worries, wig modifications are common! But consider taking it to a professional stylist that is comfortable with wigs as cutting a wig is different from cutting human hair as this hair will not grow back if you mess up! Bangs are a little easier to modify and are often tackled at home if you’re comfortable.
Proper fit: If it slides around it's probably too big. Use the adjusters at the nape to make it tighter or try adding a wig grip. It may also be sliding around on your bio hair, and if this is the case try adding a wig cap over your bio hair.
