So now you have your first wig and you’re wondering what to do with it when it’s not on your head. Or maybe you’ve amassed quite a collection and you’re not sure how to store them all. Below are some tips for wig storage
Comb: Always comb your wig between wearing it and hanging it up for the day
Light: Try to avoid storing your wigs where they will be exposed to sunlight as this may fade the colors
Position: It’s best if you can hang them up to help them maintain their shape (ain’t nobody got time for taco-head!), but storing them in a box will do if you’re not going to be wearing it for a while
Oil: Human hair wigs will need a bit of oil from time to time to prevent them from drying out, even when not in use (don’t worry about this for synthetic wigs)
Wig stands come in plastic or wire and various heights. Many are collapsible so you can take them with you when you travel.
Inexpensive and easy, best for short wigs
This method of storage helps maintain volume. You can hang it on a hook by the tag or with clips at the nape
Just like your favorite wig vendor uses
This was achieved by using stick-on wall hooks holding up 5” styrofoam balls. You can also find wall-mounted wig stands on Amazon
Helful if you’re short on counter space and you can “stack” them vertically
Shoes are about the same size as wigs, so many shoe-intended storage solutions can double as wig storage. Just make sure you lay it in the space neatly so the hair doesn’t get tangeld or mis-shapen
